Meet Ebba Johansson, SACC-NE alumni.

Being an intern at SACC-NE is a unique opportunity to gain valuable ‘real world’ experience and business-related skills as well as develop a professional international network in a region with some of the world’s most prominent life science, technology, and cleantech industry clusters. It is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to gain a competitive edge — in Sweden and internationally. We asked Ebba Johansson, Business Development Intern at SACC-NE 2019/2020, why she chose to become an intern.

At the end of my bachelor studies, I longed to gain more international experience in a professional setting and by chance, I came across an ad for an internship opportunity opening up at SACC-NE. I was immediately intrigued. Through the internship, I would get a dual exposure to the American market, both through SACC-NE and the bio-tech startup Repertoire Immune Medicines. The opportunity to learn was immense, having one foot in two completely different organizations and industries. The idea of working at Kendall square, the most innovative square mile in the world, was also a strong selling point. I applied and a few weeks later I was on the flight to Boston. And Boston did not disappoint.

The time at SACC-NE was an incredibly valuable experience. Being a small organization, multitasking becomes key and you learn to work on multiple (and diverse!) projects at the same time. From attending meetings with delegates, to arranging events and creating membership strategies, there is never a dull moment. With responsibility from the very start, you learn to be accountable and deliver for the internal deadlines. These are all skills I have taken with me when continuing my master studies and continued work as a sustainability consultant.

After my time in Boston, I gained a new perspective on working in an international setting. Recruiters have moreover been impressed by my professional experience in the US and I see it as a great stepping stone for anyone seeking a career abroad. With a great team, diverse work and an exiting environment, I can’t do anything but recommend an internship at SACC-NE.

Thank you Ebba for sharing your experiences in Boston - it was very inspiring!
