What is Glögg?

Glögg, or mulled wine, is a warm beverage best enjoyed during the cold weeks leading up to Christmas. It tastes even better if you drink it with gingerbread snaps. A popular feature at Swedish outdoors Christmas fairs, the main ingredients of Glögg are red wine, sugar, spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and optionally also stronger spirits such as vodka or brandy. There are non-alcoholic versions as well. Glögg can be bought ready-made in cups or bottles, or made from prepared spice packages, or from scratch. In Sweden this is a beverage consumed almost exclusively during the Christmas season, usually with raisins and blanched almonds added.

About Mikael Sjöblom

Native Swede Mike Sjöblom is the Glögg Master as well as winemaker at Sjoeblom Winery. Founded in August 2000, the winery is located in Napa, California, one of the most prestigious and progressive wine-producing regions in the world. Sjoeblom Winery offers many selections of wine, including a Sparkling Wine, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, and of course Glögg.

"To make good quality glögg, it is imperative to start with a good quality wine. My glögg is made with a 2016 vintage wine. Only a handful of other wine makers also create glögg, and unfortunately, understanding the importance of the base wine is often lost in translation when adding spices to it." - Mikael Sjöblom
